Fitting a PFD

Equipment Discussion with Trevor and Nathan

4 min ·  Safety Course

In this lesson Trevor and Nathan will be discussing how to properly adjust a PFD (Personal Flotation Device) to fit someone on a river trip. There are a number of different body sizes and shapes that you will encounter on the river. PFDs are designed to be flexible to fit a broad range of sizes. Getting the fit right will help you and your fellow boaters have a safe and fun day on the water. Some other considerations for PFDs are:

  • Graded sizing where the panels vary based on the size of the PFD

  • Thigh straps -great for big water situations or very small paddlers

  • PFD selection - Learn more at the Gear Shed
