Soul Rafter - Guisane River

Soul Rafter - Guisane River

The last raft descent of the slide on the Guisane

Whitewater rafting the Guisane river through Briancón, France is a roller coaster ride that starts on one side of town and ends on the other. From the beginning to the confluence with the Durance river, the Guisane drops over a dam, under several bridges and loses a significant amount of gradient. Yet, our friend Antoine and everyone else we spoke to said this class III-IV run would be a walk in the park. It certainly was not the hardest thing we boated in France, but the continuous nature of the Guisane River made us stay on our toes the whole time! It was tiring but it was also fun, and it left us wishing that the Guisane could be our “after work run.” The slide mentioned in the title has, since we ran it in June 2019, been diverted to update the dam and is no longer runnable and possibly no longer existent.

The raft and some other gear was provided by our good friends at Crazy Water Rafting. Check them out if you’re in France!
