World Rafting Championships Day 1 Results
The first race day has concluded with some exciting results. So far the Czech Republic is absolutely dominating, ranking in the top 3, in almost every category except U19. The sprint and Head to Head are a good indicator of how the competition stacks up, but it is not the end all with 2 more days of races for teams to narrow the gap.
The UK Open Women's came out on top in the Open Women's Category today against the Czech team with a perfect Head to Head score while losing only 22 points in the slalom to the Czech team's perfect score. Across nearly every category a fierce battle between the Czech Republic and the UK is brewing with the teams of the two nations slugging it out for the title in U23 Men and Open Men's and Women's.
Brazil has also been coming out as a strong contender In the U23 Women's, U23 Men's, and U19 Men's.
Russia is also coming out with some solid U19 teams as well falling a mere 4 points behind the Brazilian U19 Men.
One big surprise is the Norwegian and Japanese Women's Masters teams. These two teams share a narrow 14 point gap both coming out of the day with a perfect score in Head to Head and Sprint respectively.

There is still a wide margin for other teams in the field to help close the gap over the next 2 days of racing. Coming out on top in day 1 is a great start for the teams in the top bracket however it remains to be seen if they have the staying power for the next two days. The Downriver will be the most anticipated event since it allows for the most points and can change the entire game. Did these teams expend all of their energy in day one? Will they have the stamina to remain on top all the way to the Downriver Race on day 3? Stay tuned and check back for tomorrow's standings. Also, you can check out the recap below.
